Inspection, Weigh-in, & Registration
Monday Feb 27 and Tuesday Feb 28, 2023, times TBA
Transport your car in a shoebox. Dropped cars are unfortunately a too common experience.
Explain to your Scout that running the car along the floor prior to the race will cause it to slow down and lose! There will be a short track at the registration times for the Scout to safely run the car a few times before final inspection.
Car numbers will be assigned a week or so before registration, and the builder may apply their number however they like. This is optional, since the registration judges will write the number using permanant marker near the back of the car.
Each car must pass a technical inspection before it may compete. Technical inspection and registration of cars occurs on February 27th and 28th (2023) at Hianloland fire station.
Get the weight as close to the 5.0 ounce limit as possible. Add the last little bit of weight with a couple pennies taped to the car. Remember, the official scale may not weigh the same as yours.
Photos will be taken of the cars and the builder (Scout, sibling, parent) for use at the event. Dress in uniform for the registration day to make the best photos!
The Inspection Committee shall disqualify cars which do not meet these rules. If a car does not pass inspection, the owner will be informed of the reason his car did not pass (too long, too heavy, altered wheel base, or the like). Cars which fail the initial inspection may be modified for final inspection before registration ends.
To enter the race, cars must have passed inspection and be registered by the end of inspection and registration. The Inspection Committee must be contacted beforehand if the car cannot be brought to the published times. (Contact the Cubmaster or a den leader).
Cars with wet paint will not be accepted.
No cars may be altered in any way after it has been registered. Damage repair shall be allowed during the Derby only if it does not delay the race, but no modifications shall be allowed.
After passing inspection, no car shall be re-inspected unless repaired after damage in handling or in a race.
Unsportsmanlike conduct by any participant or spectator will be grounds for expulsion from the competition and/or the race area.
Cars not meeting the inspection criteria may be run as "experimental" vehicles, if judges and builder's agree, so as not to spoil all that hard work and still have fun seeing it on race day; however, these cars are not eligible for speed awards or advancement to regional races.
